A Long Weekend in Whistler

We just got home from spending the Canada Day long weekend at the Four Seasons Resort in Whistler.  It was such a lovely time away with Paul and Sydney.  The Four Seasons never disappoints, the service is amazing and the hotel is comfortable and luxurious.  We enjoyed long swims with Sydney and relaxing pool-side.  Much fun!

There was a ton of things going on in Whistler village for Canada Day, parades, concerts, face painting....the mood in the village was so festive, everyone had little Canada flags or was dressed in red, it felt very patriotic!  Sydney was literally going crazy over all of the Canada flags, it is honestly one of her favourite things, it's too cute!

Growing up in Northern BC, I typically am not too amazed by wildlife sightings but this trip was something different.  We ran into three brown bears on the village trail on the way walking home from dinner one evening.  Here's the hind end of one, I managed to quickly snap this picture before turning around to see two more bears behind us and deciding to exit stage left before one of us got eaten!  The next day we saw what we think were the same three bears crossing the street right by our hotel, amazing and kind of scary all at once!

In the summer, on Sunday mornings in the upper village, the Whistler Farmer's Market takes place.  It is always a great place to meet locals selling everything from produce to jewellery, clothing to canned goods.  Unfortunately, it was absolutely pouring this morning while the market was on so we took refuge in the Chateau Whistler.  To kill time, we wandered through a couple of art galleries there and Paul bought me a lovely new pair of earrings made by Ruby Radish from the Mountain Gallery.  This jewellery designer is from Saskatchewan and makes the coolest pieces, I could have bought a ton of things from her showcase!

It was a very lovely long weekend with Paul and Sydney in one of our favourites places in the world, Whistler.
