Rosh Hashanah

Today was another perfect Sunday, the most amazing fall day.  The sun was out, the sky was perfectly blue and we had a whole day ahead of us to fill together.  Perfection!

Minutes after I got up this morning, Sydney dragged out the box from IKEA which held an un-assembled little wooden step stool that I had bought for her bathroom.  She simply couldn't wait to put it together, so before we did anything else today, the two of us sat on the floor of my office, in our pajamas, and built it together.  It is the perfect height for her bathroom and she can now climb up to wash her hands all by herself!

We also got a glass vase at IKEA yesterday to hold Paul's vintage marble collection from when he was a little boy.  We carefully put all the marbles in the vase today to display them  it looked so cool and makes such a nice addition to Paul's den.

As with so many Sundays before, we headed to Granville Island this morning to enjoy the weather.  The island is so much less busy now that tourist season is over, it was nice to have it a bit quieter and to be able to sit and enjoy the view and the sun today while Sydney fed the birds and munched on some french fries.

On the way home from Granville Island Sydney picked a bouquet of wildflowers to give to Bubbie along with one of the cards that she made at preschool:

Bubbie had been busy all morning baking round challah with raisins for the new year!  We have been munching away on our loaf all day!

Tonight is the first night of Rosh Hashanah which marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year.  I love that Rosh Hashanah falls in September, a month where new beginnings seems so natural.  I have to say that I have really been looking forward to the holidays this year and instilling a greater sense of tradition within Sydney as each year passes.

We shared dinner tonight with our friends Rodney and Lynne along with many friends and family members.  It was a lovely time of celebrating together over fantastic food and company!

I made a beautiful fruit platter to take to Lynne's house tonight to share, meant to take a picture when I was finished assembling it, but totally forgot, so got this quick shot as I was pulling it out of the fridge to jump into the car!  Pardon the saran wrap!

As we were leaving dinner tonight, Lynne gave each guest a couple of jars of homemade strawberry jam that her nephew Greg and his wife Jen had made.  What a special treat which we will enjoy!

The next couple of days will be so special as we continue to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and spend time together with family and friends.  Shana Tova!
