12-12-12

It is the twelfth day of the twelfth month of the twelfth year, a special day and today certainly felt special indeed!

Late last night, long after Sydney had gone off to sleep I got a text from my friend Michelle letting me know that she had left a little Hanukkah parcel on the front porch for Sydney.  Inside, was the most beautiful Papyrus card for all of us, complete with rhinestones attached to make the snowflakes sparkle!

Sydney was so excited to see a gift waiting for her on the kitchen table this morning.  She asked me who it was for, and who it was from, and then asked if she could open it when we lit the Hanukkah candles tonight.  I was pretty impressed with her self control in not trying to rip it open right then when she found out it was for her!

We did open that beautiful present tonight and inside were such thoughtful gifts from my dear friend Michelle.  She gave Sydney a ladybug piggybank that can be custom painted.  Perfect for my little artist!  She also gave Syd a ladybug wallet and inside she tucked a Loonie in the change purse.  You would have thought that Sydney had just won the lotto when she found that Loonie!  She was pretty excited.

She also gave Sydney a puzzle that she could colour herself, a smaller version of the one that she gave us for Sydney's birthday last month.  Sydney decided that she was going to colour it right away, this was her final result:

Today was a very special day at school, it was the class Hanukkah party.  Sydney's teachers, Jen and Carmen, went to so much work decorating the class today to make it look special for the celebration.

The kids had latkes and our sugar cookies and sang special songs and lit the candles after saying the blessings.  It was so special and I was so glad that the parents were invited to share in the day with the kids!

At the end of class each child got a little gift bag with a package of crayons, a dreidel and some stickers, along with a couple of the sugar cookies we made on Monday.  Each child also gave the parents a very special present which Paul and I opened tonight.

Inside our gift we found a  salt dough menorah which Sydney made and painted herself, along with three beautiful Hanukkah cards.  We loved it!

By the time Sydney's day at school was done, she had all but lost her voice.  She has had a lingering cold for quite a few days and I was debating whether or not we should try and make her last swimming class of the season today.  By the time we got home she was definitely not being herself, crabby and whiny all around.

I decided we'd scrap swimming, and a planned coffee date with our friends Saskia and Myrtle, and jumped in the bath together instead and soaked until we were prunes.  I gave Syd a shot of Tylenol and we chilled on the couch, watching TV and eating some snacks until dinner time.  By then she had perked up and seemed like she was feeling better.  Let's hope this doesn't amount to anything!

My sweet friend Saskia dropped by to bring us our Christmas present.  She gave Paul and I a lovely bottle of Australian Shiraz and Sydney a little tin lunch kit and a Playmobil figurine set.  Syd loved setting it up!

Paul came home from work today with a very special treat, an enormous bouquet of fresh fruit from Edible Arrangements arranged in a beautiful tin basket from one of his colleagues.  It was filled with amazing cut fruit of all sorts, pineapple, melon, strawberries, grapes and chocolate dipped fruit spread all throughout!  We ate a ton of it for dessert tonight and it still looks like no one even touched it!  What a fun and lovely gift!

We lit the candles in celebration of the fifth night of Hanukkah tonight and Sydney opened up her new Barbie on a scooter!  I think I loved this gift more than she did, I still love Barbies even as an adult and would have died to have had a scooter for my Barbies when I was a kid!

It really was a special day.  We felt so loved with all of the beautiful gifts that were showered on us!
