Hanukkah Weekend

This past few days have been such a great mix of fun events and time together at home relaxing.  I always feel as if I need to be running full steam ahead at this time of year, so it was nice to just take some time to simply be.

Here's what we've been up to:

Hanukkah Party

This morning Paul, Sydney and I headed to the annual Hanukkah party at Sydney's preschool.  Syd was so thrilled to see her teachers outside of the classroom environment and to meet up with some of her buddies from school.  There were several rooms set up with different crafts for the kids, Sydney so enjoyed them all!

She painted a giant candle holder for a huge menorah that they will be setting up:

Then made the most beautiful menorah with her teacher Carmen:

Then headed over to see Jen in the other craft room where she made a dreidel ornament, Hanukkah crown, painting, and collage.

We sang songs and visited and left with a little gift bag filled with Hanukkah gelt, a dreidel and some new crayons!  Syd was thrilled!

Visit with Issy and Nathan

After the party this morning we headed over to Sydney's cousin's house to have a visit with them.  Syd loves hanging out with her two cousins, they are so sweet with her and play so nicely with her!  Issy and Nathan got Sydney a very special gift for Hanukkah this year, a Hello Kitty lunch kit and a boxed set of Hello Kitty books!

Lighting the Menorah

For the first year ever, Syd completely gets what's going on with Hanukkah!  It's fantastic.  She is so excited to light the candles, in fact the past two nights she has announced to Paul and I at about 4:00 in the afternoon that she's "ready to start her Hanukkah."  It's pretty cute!  She has been trying to say the blessings with Paul every night as he lights the candles and has so enjoyed opening up her gifts!

The first night she got a little ladybug jewellery box with a very special necklace inside with her name on it:

We also opened another present from my sister and her family, a very cool dry erase book and markers which Syd was quite tickled about.  She loves that she can write in the book and then simply wipe the writing away!

The second night she got a couple of books that I love that we didn't yet have, 'Baby Beluga' and the poignant 'Wherever you are, my Love will Find You."  We read both tonight before bed!

Lunch with Uncle Paul

Yesterday afternoon Syd and I met up with my brother and his girlfriend for lunch at the Thai House to have the chance to have a visit together before the holidays and do a little gift exchange.  It was so great to see them and catch up on what they've been up to and to enjoy the All-You-Can-Eat Thai brunch, so yummy!

Paul and Steph gave Sydney a fantastic bag filled with gifts, a Dora doll, a Dora playdough set, Dora marker and colouring page set, stamping markers, stickers and some new finger paint!  They totally spoiled her!

They also gave me a lovely gift, a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, which I love, and a fantastic gift set from the Body Shop.  Such lovely pampering gifts for a Mom who could definitely use both!

Dreidel Crayons

One of Sydney's buddies from preschool, Henry, gave her a little gift on Friday, the cutest set of dreidel shaped crayons!  I love them!  Syd was quite thrilled with them too, although she has yet to actually colour with them, she has lined them up and played with them throughout the weekend!

New Rainboots

With all of the liquid sunshine that Vancouver has been getting lately, I couldn't resist getting myself a new pair of cute rainboots for the season.  I love them!  So fun and super comfortable to walk in!  They will get a ton of use!

Salt Dough Painting

Sydney spent her downtime doing some painting this weekend, finishing up both the Christmas wreaths and Hanukkah decorations for our friends and her class.  They looked so pretty in the end all painted and decorated with glitter!

I tied a ribbon to the top of each of the ornaments for her classmates, put them in a plastic baggie and we'll attach a little card to each and give them to her friends this Wednesday at the class Hanukkah party!

It really has been a fun weekend celebrating together with friends and family.  I love that we have eight full days of celebrating together!
