Blank Slate

For the first time in what seems like weeks I looked at my daytimer on Friday night and saw two completely free days ahead of us for this weekend.  A blank slate to fill and nothing but sunny summer days ahead, how awesome!

On Friday night we celebrated Paul's Mom's 97th birthday.  I love that Paul has such great long-life genes and can only hope that he lives as long a life as his Momma!

We had her favourite, a DQ Ice Cream cake which was enjoyed by all, especially Sydney!

I took some time on Friday morning to make a few things in the kitchen.  Made a batch of raspberry vinegar which has to steep for two weeks before it's ready to use.  Can't wait to taste it!

Also used the mini cukes that I got at the farmers market last weekend to make a batch of bread and butter pickles.  Yum!

And tried a new recipe to use up the remainder of the zucchini that I had in the fridge, zucchini fritters!  These delicious treats are super healthy and easy to make!  Loved them!

Saturday was pretty slow and easy.  Syd and I wandered up to our favourite art supply store, Urban Source, to load up on art supplies while Paul got his hair cut in the morning and in the afternoon we took in Khatsalano Fest on 4th Avenue.  What a fun summer street festival!

Syd and I took another item off our summer bucket list this afternoon and went for a nature walk in the endowment lands.

We took a bucket with us and collected flowers along the way there and back to put in our flower press.

Our power went out at 2:30am on Saturday morning along with the rest of our neighborhood and remained off until noon today.  Sydney, of course, asked for pancakes for breakfast which were impossible to make without electricity, so off we went for an early morning breakfast at Jethro's, our local haunt.

Sydney had some delicious chocolate chip pancakes that were as huge as the dinner plate they came on!

We popped to Paul's office to quickly see a patient, ran a few errands and then went to visit Paul's Mom where Sydney rode her balance bike around and around the cul-de-sac with glee.

On the way home we stopped off at one of my favourite spots, KJM Country Gardens, to pick up a few new plants for the garden and indoor atrium.

Sydney just loves the horses and chickens there!

We spent the afternoon playing in the garden, planting new plants, bobbing around in Syd's swimming pool and enjoying gin and tonics before a quick trip to the park before dinner.  Perfect Sunday fare!

So we managed to fill our blank slate after all pretty well I think.  Happy Weekend!
